The Northeastern Aegean Islands
A cultural crossroad located in the deep blue waters of the Aegean. Each one has taken on a unique cultural shape with an expansive history. The most important of islands in the Northeast are Lesbos, Samos, Chios, and Icaria. The terrain of the Northeastern islands are filled with green vegetation and the island of Samotrak is home to the highest mountain in the Aegean sea. For nature lovers and those who love to hike The Northeast offers some of the most jaw-dropping scenery with its rich and exotic vegetation: vines growing onto hotel terraces, pink flamingos relaxing in the cool water, green rolling hills, colorful flowers covering the walls of the whitewashed houses, and much more. For those who seek history and mythology- look no further, these islands are the core to some of the most renowned myths and  stories. Archaeological excavation sites are 'dime a dozen' and will keep visitors interested for hours. Visitors seeking a little healing power also visit these islands to relax and to soak in the natural hot springs, which some have said to have worked miracles. Besides the natural beauty there is also great opportunities to let loose and get funky until the early morning. Visitors have a variety of nightspots to choose from: local tavernas, bouzouki bars, lounges, and trendy night clubs.  No matter what you are looking for in a vacation you'll be sure to find it in the Northeast Aegean Islands.
Thassos
Thassos
This is the northernmost island of all the Greek isles, and home to the mythical Sirens. This island offers green rolling hills, mountains, sandy beaches and clear blue sea. The National Tourist Organization calls Thassos "Greece's Emerald isles'. This island is only about 7 miles from the mainland making it accessible without the hassle of traveling by boat for hours. This island is very tourist friendly, most menus are available in English and Spanish and the restaurants offer a variety of traditional Greek food to more contemporary.
Lesbos
Lesbos
The unspoiled natural beauty of Lesbos distinguishes itself from the rest of the Greek islands. Unspoiled by mass tourism, Lesbos is the perfect destination for people who want to experience the real Greece. Located just south of Asia minor this island has a mild Mediterranean climate and warm friendly hospitable inhabitants. Mytilini, the capital of Lesbos, is one of the most culturally enlightened cities in Greece, with museums containing artifacts from the last 3000 years.
Samotraki

Samotraki

Samotraki is located in the northern Aegean and it is the island closest to Turkey. The masterpiece statue of Nike standing eleven feet tall headless and armless was created on this island, however, if you want to see the statue you're better off going to the Louvre in Paris. Samotraki is home to the largest mountain in the Aegean at 1611 meters high. The mountain offers some of the most beautiful waterfalls and natural springs for those who are willing to hike and explore. Much of the south part of the island is inhospitable but is worth seeing for its natural beauty. Samotraki has a buzzing nightlife, great archealogical sites, and beautiful beaches. This island is highly recommended especially for nature lovers and aspiring explorers.

Ikaria

Ikaria
Ikaria is known for their full bodied dark red wines. The rugged landscape and the neglected villages make it unappealing at first to visitors, but worth the visit for their abundance of natural hot springs, the few but picturesque beaches, and their delicious red wine. Nightlife in Ikaria is sparse and not recommended for those who are in search of the party island. Europe's first Ecological Hydroelectric Power Plant, which will harvest only reusable energy, is under construction and will soon be the only source of energy for this eco-friendly island. Ikaria has recently received a lot of attention from the researchers of Blue Zone, due to the many number of residents who live past 100 years of age.
