Greek Islands

cruises4greece.jpg___3

The Greek Archipelago consists of 6,000 islands and islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Sea and only 227 of them are inhabited. These islands offer a highly diversified landscape and more than a two-thousand-year-old historical, cultural and architectural heritage since they were the cradle of ancient civilizations such as the Cycladic or Minoan.  Each island is unique with its own characteristic image, centuries-old local traditions and cuisine. What they all have in common: typical Mediterranean climate, safe and clean waters with spectacular beaches of which numerous have been awarded the blue flag under the program Blue Flags of Europe, friendly and hospitable locals, and numerous facilities to spend your holiday as you please and to gain an unforgettable experience.

The largest islands by area are Crete, Evia, Lesbos and Rhodes. The most popular and busiest ones for good reason are Santorini (or Thira), Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes and Corfu however all the Greek islands are great holiday destinations.

Most of the Greek islands lie in the Aegean Sea and the rest on the Ionian Sea; they are grouped into the following clusters (only the most important islands of each group are listed below)
